Posture is an extremely important aspect of our health

Posture represents how we are reacting to our environment and can represent the state of our health.  Poor posture is linked to a wide variety of health problems.  Unfortunately, poor posture is often overlooked.

Our heads should be centered on our shoulders and the hips should be centered with the torso.  From the side, the head should be positioned close to the center of the shoulder. With more and more people using smartphones and technology, we are seeing more forward head posture and upper back rounding. From a bio-mechanical standpoint, this causes the average 10-12 pound human head to weigh 30 to 40 pounds.  Poor posture has been linked to headaches, back pain, poor breathing function, spinal degeneration, sciatica, and numbness and tingling in the hands and feet. The body tends to send more spasms and inflammation to the areas of poor posture to stabilize and cushion the weak areas.  The majority of disc-related issues that we see involve poor posture.

We are seeing more children with posture-related issues lately.  Looking down at screens, carrying heavy backpacks, and gaming for long hours often contribute to this.  The great part about working with children is that they do not usually have enough time for the degeneration to set in.

A chiropractic exam is an excellent way to guard your posture.  A short evaluation can often determine if there is a problem.  If we feel that you are a good candidate for chiropractic care, we develop an individualized program to improve your posture. Feel free to contact us at Spineprosbuford.com or (770) 329-9784 with any questions or concerns.
